Is diet pills good for you

First of all what is diet pill. As most of us know diet pills are drugs taken to help lost weight by suppressing appetite. These drugs suppress the appetite by altering the level of chemicals in the brain associated with feeling full. Some diet pills may increase the body's metabolism, which makes a person to lose weight by increasing the amount of fat that is used as energy, thereby reducing the amount of fat absorbed by the body.

Some of the classification of these diet pills includes:
Sibutramine (meridia), which is a prescription pill that makes you feel full sooner.
Olistal (xenical), which is a prescription pill that prevent some of the fat calories you eat from being absorbed in your intestines.
Phentermine suppresses your appetite. It is approved only for short-term use.
Generally, diet pills are used for those who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher. But sometimes there are used for those with a BMI of 27 or higher who are at risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea.

In most cases, diet pills are for short-term use for people who have health conditions that are worsened by being overweight, such as diabetes, high blood pressure or heart conditions.

The food and drugs administration (FDI) has approved several medications that a physician may prescribe to treat obesity. One type helps people to lose weight by preventing the absorption of fat. In 2007, a lower dose version of this drug became the only FDA approved diet pill that those not require a prescription.
In conclusion the bottom line is "Always check with your physician before taken anything that promises to "melt off the weight".
Remember the most effective cure for overweight is the combining it with diet and exercise.

WEIGHT-LOSS A SOLUTION TO BODY FREEDOM

Overweight is a serious health hazard. It puts extra strain on the heart, lungs, muscles, bones, and joints and increases susceptibility of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. It increases surgical risks, shortens the life span, causes psychosocial problems and some forms of cancer. People who are obese are at greater risk of several disorders like cardiovascular disease (CVD), hypertension, renal diseases, arthritis, gallbladder disease, increased blood lipid concentration (hypercholestraemic), increased respiratory stress e.g. in asthma patient, decreased lung volume, poor wound healing, back problems, stroke, digestive disorders, increased risks during surgical operations especially during child birth, gout e.t.c.

Research has shown that the most effective way to overcome overweight (obesity) is by combining dieting with physical activities and medicine.

Eating fewer calories is one of the best ways to lose weight. For most adults, a low calorie diet of 1200 to 1500 calories per day for women and 1500 to 1800 calories per day for men is recommended for weight-loss.
At the annual meeting of the obesity society, (an organization of weight-loss researchers and professionals). Researchers came to the conclusion that "100 - calorie packs help, snackers snack less"
As reported by nanci hellmich of USA TODAY "people who might nibble on treats from 100 - calories to about 120 fewer a day - than those who are eating from a regular-size bag. It seems like common sense, and now researchers have the proof that it is true".

TIPS TO HELP CHANGE HOW YOU EAT
-Food sources of added calories, such as snacking, drinking alcohol, or having soft drinks and reduce your intake of them.
-Use lean meats and meat alternatives.
-Plan your meals and snick ahead of time. This provides a road map for how you will make changer and helps you set goals, track your progress, and reward yourself.
-Keep unhealthy food out of the house.
-Eat before you go grocery shopping. This can lower your tendency to buy foods that are'nt good for you and can help you avoid impulse shopping (buying things you do not need, just because you see them).

Physical Activities Exercise is highly recommended for weight-loss. A study from Brown University researchers found that 2500 people who lost an average 60 pounds and kept it off for a year exercised about an hour a day.
Another Study found that short bouts of exercise during the day were as effective as one long period in maintaining weight-loss for women. It is important that people know they can exercise a little bit at a time.
From Dr. Mercola’s (mercola.com)
It is not common that a news piece changes my clinical practice, but this report has (The research from Brown University). I will be confidently advising patients who are heavy and seeking to lose weight to increase their exercise to one hour per day.
This will require significant life style modifications, as most of us do not have a free hour to spare everyday. One simple suggestion, in light of the fact that winter is approaching and walking outside is not really a comfortable option for most of us, is to use a high quality rebounder.
When i had TV in my home, I would watch it while I was rebounding in the winter and found it a practical way to be more efficient and get in my exercise. I was delighted to find out from this report through that exercise can be broken up and the same benefits will be achieved. This makes compliance much more likely to this approach.

IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISE
-Exercise assist in better control of appetite and increased energy expenditure this helps to prevent or reverse development of diseases associated with obesity.
-Exercise contributes to building and maintaining muscle mass, muscle tone, strengthen bones and help to keep the joint healthy.
-Physical exercise helps achieve and maintain ideal body weight.

Medicine is generally only used for those who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher. But they sometimes are used for those with a BMI of 27 or higher who are at risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, and sleep apnea.
Most weight-loss medicines for obesity work by making you feel hungry or making you full sooner. They are used together with diet and exercise.
A survey reported by Pennington Biomedical Research center, Baton Ronge, LA, of the opinions on the causes and effectiveness of the treatment of obesity was carried out on 50 physicians and scientists involved in obesity research. Responses were grouped by region(Europe, North America, and United Kingdom), sex, age(30-50 and greater than 50 years) and degree(MD or PhD).
From the survey all groups viewed serotonergic and thermogenic drugs as effective treatments whose usefulness would increase during the next 10 years.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF WEIGHT-LOSS
-Weight-loss may improve survival in those who have an obesity related disease, especially type 2 diabetes.
-A modest weight-loss of 4.4lb to 9.7lb resulted in a significant lowering of blood pressure.
-People with asthma who lost an average of 31.3lb over 1 year showed improved lung function and overall health, and with weight-loss, the number of severe asthma episodes (exacerbations) and oral corticosteroid courses were reduced.
-People with type 2 diabetes who lost weight had lower blood sugar levels and were able to use less medicine to lower their sugar levels.
-Sustained weight-loss prevented new cases of type 2 diabetes in people who were obese.
-People with obstructive sleep apnea who lost as little as 10% of their weight improved their sleep patterns and had less daytime sleepiness.
